Languages that will be offered: Dutch, English and self-made German. Some toppings of Islenska will be occasionally added.
This weekend there is a car show in Akureyri. People from around the island are gathering, mainly at camping sites, to show off. A town of 17000 on any normal day has now caught the attention of yours truly. Yes indeed.
The daylight, which weakens to a fair blue one can see in a candle-light, brings out the finest tuned cars, race-mufflers and spoilers one can imagine.
Camp sites are at high alert! Last year, things went Viking... This year, the camp site I am staying at, was completely reserved for families and foreigners. All the other consuming vehicles and drivers were kindly requested to stay uphill. At least for the night. Although 'that one' - in our terms at least - doesn't appear. The black void stays in space... oeoeeoeoeo
Now, activate an 'estranged' imagination.
Imagine the stem and one leaf of a clover. The stem would be a main street. The leaf shows the circle. The circle would be a 5 minute walk. The street also. At the top of the stem, where the leave starts, there is a market place. The street circles to the right, the market place to the left. The market place has, where it could touch the leaf, a leaf-edge-like bench.
For hours and hours, cars would drive at 5km/hour in that circle. Bumper to bumper. Drivers making music with mufflers and radio. Passengers sipping from tin cans.
On a bench, legs facing to the centre of the leaf you imagined, three travellers w@tch. These travellers are clothed in many layers. This so happened because their breath, when leaving the mouth, was highly visible. It left behind a gentle yet tickling touch of frost.
The offspring of the Vikings wore nothing but T-shirts while devouring tons of ice-cream.
Indeed.
The next day, when approaching a local with questions about the circle-formation. A reply followed as simple as the question: "Oh! That's normal..."
The weather you want is here though. A flat sea, no clouds, tons of ice-cream ....
As for me.
My extremely developed language and communication skills found me a place to stay for a few days. An ex-Dutchman (best to mention that he is unable to fly) who has been living here for 9 years, has offered some help with thit's and that's.
You are 2 expect two more links with pictures... I am a bit tired of editing now.
Lieven
